The Bristol Post reports on the arrest of two men in connection with a suspected hate crime incident at Al-Baseera mosque in the St Jude’s area in central Bristol.
A window at the mosque was smashed at about 9.15pm on Wednesday, 18 January.
A member of the mosque who witnessed the incident called the police and decided to follow the perpetrators. The man was then punched and robbed of his mobile phone by one of the attackers.
Avon and Somerset police have confirmed they are treating the incident as a hate crime.
Two men, aged 27 and 31, have been arrested in connection with the incident and are currently in police custody.
Superintendent Rhys Hughes said: “This is a concerning incident, in which a member of the mosque was assaulted shortly after damage was caused to the building.
“Our neighbourhood teams have been working closely with the local community and I’d like to reassure them that an investigation is under way and we’ll be working hard to find out what happened and why.”
Police are requesting anyone with information which could help them with their inquiries to call 101 and quote crime reference number 5217 012 815.
